WHAT I'VE DELIVERED FOR DISTRICT 3

Led the fight against the Summit pipeline

I was the first Republican senator to take the floor and demand a vote on eminent domain reform. I signed the 12-senator pledge to block the budget until property rights were protected. I voted yes on HF 639 to put real limits on eminent domain for private pipelines. When the governor vetoed the bill, I stood firm. Your land is your land, and I will never stop fighting to protect it.

Pushing the biggest property tax overhaul in decades

I am fighting for SSB 3001, which would give homeowners a permanent 50% taxable value discount, cap increases at 2%, and freeze property taxes for Iowans 60 and older. If you have paid off your home, you should own it, not rent it from the government.

Delivering for Iowa schools

As Chair of the Education Committee, I helped secure over $1.23 billion in new K-12 funding since 2017, with nearly $100 million more proposed this year. Reading proficiency among third graders jumped 11% in a single year. After 30 years in Iowa classrooms, education is not a talking point for me. It is my life's work.

Passed SF 643 into law

I drafted and floor-managed legislation requiring the state to reimburse counties for holding sexually violent offenders in county jails. This common-sense bill passed the Senate, was signed by the governor, and is now law saving our county budget thousands of dollars each year! It is the kind of practical result that makes a real difference for local governments and community safety.

Why I'm Running For Re-Election

I am running for re-election because this district is who I am. I was raised in Aurelia, where I still live today. I have spent my entire career serving the communities of District 3 as a teacher, coach, principal, superintendent, and now as your State Senator. I have never left, and I never will.

Iowans deserve a senator who knows what it is like to live in rural Iowa, attend Friday night football games, help during harvest, and worship together on Sunday mornings. We need someone who shares our values, listens, and fights for what is right. That is the kind of senator I will continue to be.

As your Assistant Majority Leader, District 3 has a seat at the leadership table in Des Moines for the first time in years. That means your priorities get heard first. Your schools get funded. Your property rights get protected. Replacing that influence with a freshman senator would mean starting over from scratch. I am asking you to keep me in the fight.
